Inversions are often regarded as the most powerful group of yoga postures yet are often intimidating. The usefulness of inversions extend not only to the heartof the physical body but also to mental tranquility. Conquer the fear of going upside down by understanding a basic step by step process. In this workshop you will learn modifications that create support and a safe place for exploring when we turnour bodies upside down... or maybe right side up! This workshop will esplore shoulder stand, variations of headsatnd, forearm stand, and handstnad. We will also work on some core / shoulder strengthening drills as well as some pre/post inversions therapetutics. 

All levels are welcome as options and variations will be given for the beginner to the advanced pracitioners. Practical entrances to dramatic exits will be presented as well!

About Lara: Lara is known for her inversions practice; her teaching is also known for intelligent sequencing, deep roots in more traditional aspects of the practcice, and a sense of playfulness.

Restorative yoga is considered the true antidote to stress because it is a practice that allows you to relax deeply with awareness. Relaxing with awareness is the key to bringing the mind‐body into a state of balance or homeostasis, similar to the effect of meditation.

Modern life is extremely demanding, and it’s easy to be swept away by the intensity of its pace. Today’s pace of life can cause us to be in a constant state of high alert, as our bodies release stress hormones that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, or our ‘fight or flight’ response. This affects our ability to sleep soundly, to properly digest our food, to feel grounded, to have mental clarity and focus, as well as our ability to conceive a child.

Restorative Yoga integrates fully supported yin poses and passively held postures. Through props and positioning, each asana is practiced in a way that the practitioner feels held and supported. This allows you to relax deeply and completely, stimulating a parasympathetic response and allowing our bodies' systems and rythms to recalibrate and heal. This restores our sense of balance, mentally, physiacally and emotionally.

This training is intended for yoga instructors who would like to teach Restorative yoga, as well as for yoga practitioners who would like to more deeply understand the Retrostaive Yoga practice.

In this very experiential six week class we will meet once a week for two hours to explore living with mindfulness, compassion, and resilience, which are fundamental to a life of authentic happiness. This course is a conglomeration of ancient wisdom practices (yoga, Theravada Buddhism, Zen Buddhism) and western psychology, nueroscience, and stress research. Taught by Brent Morton, who has trained and practiced extensively with pioneers in these fields, including Jack Kornfield, Dan Siegel, Peter Levine, and Tara Brach.

Mindfulness meditation will be the main technique and practice utilized in this course, the benefit of which is backed by hard science. Recent research provides strong evidence that practicing non-judgmental, present-moment awareness (a.k.a. mindfulness) changes the brain, and it does so in ways that anyone working in today’s complex business environment, and certainly every leader, should know about. Mindfulness and compassion are scientifically proven to be effective at increasing self regulation (resilience), lowering symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD, as well as growing grey matter in the brain.

Mindfulness, compassion, and resilience are a way to keep our brains healthy, support self-regulation and effective decision-making capabilities, and to protect ourselves from toxic stress. They can be integrated into one’s religious or spiritual life, or practiced as a form of secular mental training.

About the Instructor: 

Hello, my name is Brent Morton. I am a Buddhist meditation teacher, bodyworker, and Somatic Experiencing provider (using the Organic Intelligence approach). I live in Seattle, where I teach group meditation classes and provide one on one Somatic Experiencing sessions.

My practice and training includes completion of a 4 year Buddhist meditation teacher training through Jack Kornfield and Spirit Rock Meditation Center; completion of the 3 year advanced training in Somatic Experiencing; continued mentorship with Steve Hoskinson and the Organic Intelligence approach to trauma healing; completion of a 750 hour massage training and licensure as a massage practitioner; completion of 3 yoga teacher trainings and 8 years of teaching yoga asan in a studio environment; 2 years of study of Craniosacral therapy through the Milne Institute; over 10 years of practice and study of Buddhist meditation, including over 50 silent meditation retreats and practice in Thailand, Burma, and India. 

On a more personal note, I enjoy saunas and cold plunges, long philosophical conversations, beaches, nature, coffee, chocolate, music, sailing, good books, and unplanned international adventures.
