In preparation for your 5th Anniversary Celebration, Be Luminous Yoga is holding an exciting DESIGN CONTEST!

We are inviting all talented yogis and friends to enter the contest.

Help us make a celebratory splash by offering a design that:

  • Identifies a theme for the 5 year celebration
  • Provides a graphic/image/logo that demonstrates this theme
  • May include text if you’d like
  • This design could be printed on T-Shirts, web images, trucker hats and more!

All entries are due MIDNIGHT PST August 10th, 2014. Please submit your design entry along with your full name and contact information to Business@BeLuminousYoga.com with the subject "BLY Design Contest Submission."

Community voting will be held in-studio and on Facebook August 11th - 20th.

Winners and runner-ups will be annouced August 21st.

Prizes

  • Winner:  Receive 1 month of unlimited yoga for yourself, 1 month of unlimited yoga for a friend who is new to BLY (attended less than 5 times), and $50 Yoga Bucks to spend in the shop.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

About Steve:

Steve Gold is a motivational singer, musician and songwriter. He creates powerfully positive music that heals and inspires. His rendition of So Much Magnificence, the title track of his first album, can be heard around the world. His latest album, Let Your Heart Be Known, has been called "a soulful genre-buster, destined to be a classic" by LA Yoga magazine. Two of his songs are also included on the Top 15 Classic Songs For Yoga list. In addition to performing, Steve facilitates “One Team One Voice” workshops, empowering people and corporate cultures to transform fear into love through music and singing. Steve is regularly featured in Origin Magazine and Mantra Health and Yoga Magazine. What Is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction? An Interview with Sherry Williams

This fall, starting Thursday, September 11th, Sherry Williams will be offering an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction class at BLY. Here she answers a few questions about the series:

What is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction?

As the Center for Mindfulness so eloquently explains, “Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life, a way of taking charge of your life, a way of doing something for yourself that no one else can do for you – consciously and systematically working with your own stress, pain, illness, and the challenges and demands of everyday life. In contrast, you’ve probably encountered moments of 'mindlessness' – a loss of awareness resulting in forgetfulness, separation from self, and a sense of living mechanically. Restoring within yourself a balanced sense of health and well being requires increased awareness of all aspects of self, including body and mind, heart and soul. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is intended to ignite this inner capacity and infuse your life with awareness.”

Where did it come from/how was it developed?

The Stress Reduction Program, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, has been featured in the Bill Moyers’ PBS documentary Healing and The Mind; on NBC Dateline; on ABC’s Chronicle; and in various national print media. It is the subject of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s best selling book, Full Catastrophe Living and Saki Santorelli’s book, Heal Thy Self. Since its inception, more than 20,000 people have completed the traditional eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program at UMass, and learned how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain, and illness. The central focus of the Clinic is intensive training in mindfulness meditation and its integration into the challenges/adventures of everyday life.

Who can benefit from MBSR?

MBSR has benefited people reporting a variety of conditions and concerns, ranging from general interest in prevention and wellness to stress-related or other medical issues. It is not offered as an alternative to traditional medical and psychological treatments, but as a complement to those approaches.

How is it different from coming to a regular yoga or meditation class?

This is a two hour long class each week for a total of sixteen hours, plus a one day retreat on Saturday, October 18th. There is time to build community within the class, to have the opportunity to better know yourself and others in ways that may not be available in a standard yoga or meditation class.

What will the class include?

It will include guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices, gentle yoga, discussion regarding the interplay of mind and body in relation to stress, how stress reduction skills can be applied to your daily life, mindful communication and group dialogue, and home practice assignments.

Participation requires a brief telephone conversation with me prior to September 11th, a copy of Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn (available at BLY), and open-hearted commitment to the classes, retreat, and homework assignments.

Is the class open to beginners?

Absolutely! Beginners (and all levels) are welcome!

Why this training?

While many of us start yoga for its awesome physical benefits, at some point we want more than just the basics of classes.  We want to understand the anatomy behind what we are doing.  We want to to master handstand. We want to know what poses are good for energizing or managing stress and anxiety. At some point, we also know that yoga is changing us – making us kinder, happier, less reactionary.  So, what’s all that about?  What’s going on on my yoga mat that’s making me a better person elsewhere?  We’ll explore all of this and more in this powerful, hands-on 2 month immersion. Plan to participate fully. The program offers the opportunity not only expand your yoga practice, but engage in personal exploration to leave you with real, practical tools to enliven your whole life.

Who is this program for? 

The program is perfect for those who love yoga and want to learn more about the full package of yoga, from asana, to a taste of Sanskrit, to a touch of Ayurveda and a study of the 8 limbs. The course is built for yoga practitioners interested a immersion  outside of a teacher training environment, and current teachers seeking ongoing training.

What we will cover?

Asana:

  • Refine your daily asana practice & explore advanced asanas
  • Learn basic anatomy for yoga postures
  • Enjoy long, inspiring and deepening yoga practices of discovery
  • Design a home sequence

Mediation:

  • Explore three different meditation techniques
  • Learn your personalized Primordial Sound Mantra (Chopra Center)

Pranayama:

  • Learn various techniques and their applications
  • Integrate pranayama into a daily practice

Yoga Philosophy +:

  • Dive into the traditional teachings of yoga and apply them in your life

The Legs & Pelvis

This workshop will focus on the muscular-skeletal system of the pelvis, legs, and feet; showing you how to create better stability in all standing and balancing postures as well as gain access to better core strength to help stabilize inversions. Be prepared to practice an be upside down. 

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ALL LEVELS.

About the Instructor:

This workshop will be taught by Tina Templeman; a licensed massage therapist, certified Baptiste Yoga E-RYT, 2011 Lululemon Ambassador and attendee of Bastyr University's cadavar anatomy study. She has been teaching Anatomy for Yoga modules since 2011. She shares her passion for yoga mixed with her knowledge of anatomy for this informative and fun workshop. This session is guaranteed to create many "Ah-ha" moments that will reignite your yoga practice and take it to the next level.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Assistant & Teacher Development Program is the perfect fit! It is meant to be a great first step for people who just want to assist others, or a powerful program to hone your teaching.

Graduates are empowered to:

 

Hone your practice through a deeper understanding of the dynamics of individual and group postures;
Become an assistant at Be Luminous Yoga;
Advance your teaching skills, ability to read students' needs, and hands-on assisting.

The Assisting & Teaching Development Program is an intensive 8-week program that will empower you with tools and coaching to become a powerful teaching assistant and/or teacher.

The program is designed for those interested in assisting or teaching, as well as new teachers who desire the confidence and experience to provide powerful hands-on assisting and lead a class that makes a difference.

You will have opportunities to assist and to practice teaching. Teachers, you will receive feedback on all elements of your teaching, from assisting, to how to deepen your teaching of physical asana and layering in spirituality and empowerment.

This program is a requirement for new teachers to join the substitute teacher list at Be Luminous Yoga.

Neck and shoulder tension is easy to accumulate with the stresses of everyday life. Holding neck and shoulder tension effects our ability to simply be at ease and comfortable in our bodies. It causes limited range of motion, tightness and often headaches and pain. Holding tension in these areas changes our posture and alignment, inhibits our ability to sleep soundly, and effects our physical well being.

During this two hour workshop, learn how to effectively release neck and shoulder tension and prevent it from accumulation. Jodi will guide you through numerous neck and shoulder openers and releases, as well as look at postural alignment and habitual patterns that create tension in these areas.

Jodi Boone has taught yoga for over 13 years, completing her Level 1 & 2 Baptiste Yoga Training in 2003. She is inspired by the teachings of Power Vinyasa's empowerment, accessibility, and strength. About Mindfulness Meditation:

Mindfulness Meditation is the art and science of paying attention, of listening to our hearts, minds, and the world around us; of learning to be "intimate with all things."

Mindfulness mediation is quickly gaining popularity in psychology and is increasingly seen as an alternative to meditation in treating matters of the heart and mind. It is the most scientifically researched form of meditation, with researchers publishing 600 papers on its benefits last year alone, which includes everything from increased immune response to heightened empathy to reduced emotional reactivity.

Many of us acknowledge that meditation would be a beneficial and perhaps, necessary addition to our daily regimen, but starting and keeping up a meditation practice can be very difficult. That's where this 6-week course comes in.

In this course you will learn the techniques to develop a relationship with yourself and others based on kindness and acceptance, rather than judgement. Take the time to learn beneficial skills that will last a lifetime.

About Chelle:

Chelle began practicing yoga as an exciting new form of exercise, but quickly realized that the mental and emotional benefits of yoga practice had a much larger impact on her life than the physical. So much so, that she was inspired to share those benefits with others through teaching. Her first teaching opportunity was to incarcerated youth for Seattle Non-profit, Yoga Behind Bars, where she is still an active ambassador and volunteer today.

Her classes incorporate gentle and vigorous elements, with an emphasis on breath awareness and alignment. Students of all levels are welcome and encouraged to listen to their bodies, play with their limits without exceeding them, and have fun!

Chelle is a Certified Baptiste Yoga Instructor and an E-RYT, RCYT with Yoga Alliance.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

This workshop will focus on the muscular-skeletal system of the shoulder and arms. Shoing you exactly what the rotator cuff is, how being aware of your upper bodies muscular system not only improves all arm-balancing and inversion work, it will also teach you greater stability in most standing poses as well. Be prepared to practice and go upside down in this workshop.

The sister science of yoga, Ayurveda, helps us to deeply know and understand ourselves. Yoga, the perfect science for keeping our bodies physically fit, our nervous systems soothed and our minds calm, is complemented by Ayurveda, which guides us in leading a long life of health and well-being. Ayurveda, considered to be the most ancient holistic medical systems, is one of self-healing.

Each person has a unique Ayurvedic constitution. Ayurveda is concerned with bringing all aspects of your being - mind, body, heart and spirit - into balance and harmony. Based on your constitution, Ayurvedic philosophy helps you to understand how to nourish yourself and restore balance through food, yoga, sleep, work, meditation and other daily and seasonal practices.

During the 2.5 hour workshop, you will determine your Ayurvedic constitution. This will help you to understand which foods and herbs (and their preparation) are most nourishing for you, as well as recommendations for sleep, physical activity and other lifestyle recommendations.

Participants will receive a "Foundations in Ayurveda" manual, which will help to guide them in incorporating the Ayurvedic practices learned during the workshop.

About Jodi:

Jodi Boone has taught yoga since 2001, completing her Baptiste trainings in 2003. Most recently, she spent six years in India teaching and studying yoga and Ayurveda. Jodi is a certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant studying in Goa, India at the Ayurvedic Natural Health Center. She continues her studies here in Seattle at the Kerala Academy, as well as in Massachusetts at Kripalu.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. Although suppressed during years of foreign occupation, Ayurveda has been enjoying a major resurgence in both its native land and throughout the world. Tibetan medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine both have their roots in Ayurveda. This workshop will focus on the muscular-skeletal system of the spine, neck and torso. Showing you how to create better stability in all standing and balancing postures, as well as gain access to better core strength to help stabilize inversions. Be prepared to practice and be upside down.

About the Instructor:

This workshop will be taught by Tina Templeman; a licensed massage therapist, certified Baptiste Yoga E-RYT, 2011 Lululemon Ambassador and attendee of Bastyr University's cadavar anatomy study. She has been teaching Anatomy for Yoga modules since 2011. She shares her passion for yoga mixed with her knowledge of anatomy for this informative and fun workshop. Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

    • Michel brings her skills as a powerful educator and facilitator, and a deep passion for designing programs and curriculum that make a real difference in people’s lives.  She has been facilitating transformation work since she was 18 years old, starting with Essential Peacemaking & Peace Trees. 
    • Scott brings over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice to the training, including having complete multiple 10-30 day silent meditation retreats.
    • Tina brings her powerful teaching of yoga, coupled by her study of the human body as a massage therapist, creator of anatomy and physiology components for multiple teacher trainings in the Pacific Northwest.  She is also a Reiki master and had facilitated non-yoga transformational work for since 2002. 
  • Adjunct Faculty: Experience a minimum of three powerful guest teachers from other styles of yoga.

How many people will be in our teacher training?  We limit the number of participants to 32 people, with a staff to student ratio of 1:8.  We require 16 people at a minimum to run the program.  While many applicants will be accepted, not all will be.  You must have practiced yoga for at least three months before applying to this training.   

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.  

Core Teacher Training Faculty

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.  

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

The purpose of the Be Luminous Teacher Training program is to empower you to teach and inspire others to live vibrant, joyful lives.  It is our firm belief that happy, healthy people are the only people who can help build a happy, healthy world.  This is the work of being a teacher.  It begins with the individual and spreads as you live yoga - live union - in your life.

How does the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training program prepare you to take on your role as a teacher?  Our Teacher Training program provides a well-rounded curriculum in the 8 Limbs of Yoga, with a focus on teaching for positive personal and global transformation through asana and meditation.  You will gain an understanding of how to sequence and structure yoga classes and training in anatomy and modifications for niche groups.  The program is anchored in the Baptiste Power Vinyasa philosophy and sequencing, but will provide a strong foundation in yoga, enabling you to apply this training toward various styles of yoga.  The program also includes a significant emphasis on personal awareness and an ability to teach from your heart with a strong, clear voice.

 

Upon successful completion of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Training, you are eligible to apply for your 200 RYT certification with the Yoga Alliance.  This program is also certified through the Washington State Workforce Training board, a consumer protection agency govering all vocational schools in the State of Washington.

October 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of October 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 23rd.  For those wanting a payment plan option, be sure to get your application in by this deadline. 

December 14, 2014:  Applications will be reviewed the week of December 14th and applicants will be notified of acceptance by December 21st.

Late Applications:  Space permitting, applications will be accepted until January 8, 2015.

Open House & FREE CLASS!:  With a Thursday evening in June & September to include a  5:30-6:30 pm class with Tina Templeman and 6:45-7:45 Information Session with Faculty and Alumni.  Check back for specific dates.

Mandatory Program Dates: January 15-18, February 5-8, March 5-8, April 2-5, April 30- May 3. 

Weekend Schedule: All weekends are Thursday nights from 4-9 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 8:15 am – 6:30pm.

How does this training prepare me to teach that other trainings may not offer?   We are committed to empowering you to teach NOW, not with 3 more years of practice under your belt.  In order to achieve this, you will have many teaching and feedback opportunists each weekend.  Of particular interest, the Be Luminous Yoga program offers you three opportunities to teach on video, receiving feedback from two coaches each time.  By the last time, you will teach a full 1-hour class.  Second, you will teach a small section of a live class of 40-60 people on the weekend of graduation.  Most programs offer small bits of feedback on individual poses or 5-10 minutes of teaching.  We believe you need to teach real people in real settings for longer amounts of time in order to be ready to teach.  We offer you a unique and fabulous opportunity to grow quickly with our system.

    • Scott brings over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice to the training, including having complete multiple 10-30 day silent meditation retreats.
    • Tina brings her powerful teaching of yoga, coupled by her study of the human body as a massage therapist, creator of anatomy and physiology components for multiple teacher trainings in the Pacific Northwest.  She is also a Reiki master and had facilitated non-yoga transformational work for since 2002. 
  • Adjunct Faculty: Experience a minimum of three powerful guest teachers from other styles of yoga.

How many people will be in our teacher training?  We limit the number of participants to 32 people, with a staff to student ratio of 1:8.  We require 16 people at a minimum to run the program.  While many applicants will be accepted, not all will be.  You must have practiced yoga for at least three months before applying to this training.   

What is the pre-requisite work?  Anyone is eligible to apply for teacher training.  Once you are accepted, you will be given your pre-requisite work, which mainly consists of reading, anatomy study and reviewing a few classes at various studios before we begin.  This is about 30 hours worth of work that you complete on your own in any way that works for you.  We recommend making the initial Application Deadline to have the most time to complete your work.

When will I hear if I am accepted?  Applications for 2015 will be reviewed and accepted within one week of each of the posted application deadlines.  At this time, you will be sent the enrollment agreement.  Upon recepeit of your enrollment agreement, you will receive an acceptance letter, a welcome packet with your pre-requisite work to begin, and we will charge you based on your application preferences.

What if I need to miss a session?   If you already know you will need to miss more than a day of training, we recommend that you wait for the next training.  It is a requirmeent of the Yoga Alliance that you receive a minimum number of contact hours for the training to apply for Yoga Alliance Certification.  It is also quite challenging to parse out the time you miss into make-up time.   Any hours missed must be made up at an extra expense of $50 per hour (this is significantly less many other teacher training programs).  We will always work with people for family emergencies and other issues that may arise.  

Core Teacher Training Faculty

Michel Eubank Spruance, E-RYT 500, MEd. and a Baptiste Faculty Member, has been teaching yoga since 2004 with an emphasis on Baptiste Power Vinyasa.  She assists Baron Baptiste frequently at teacher trainings, finding great inspiration in working with new teachers.  Michel marries her passion for impactful curriculum design with over 19 years as a classroom educator and facilitator of personal transformation programs to insure your success as a teacher. Her mission is to inspire and empower everyone she works with.

Scott Francis brings his passion for yoga and meditation to this training, encouraging students to dive into deep personal transformation and the experiential understanding of universal truths. He brings his wisdom as a facilitator and draws on over 20 years of studies with master yoga teachers and internationally known meditation teachers to guide students to their potential.

Tina Templeman, E-RYT 200, is a strong and graceful yoga teacher, and the owner of Body Harmony: Massage and Yoga.  Tina serves as a Lead Instructor for the program as a whole, as well as separheading the anatomy and physiology portion of the training with an emphasis on its application to teaching yoga.  While Tina leads is saught afgter to lead the anatomy section of many other 200-Hour Trainings, you can only get the full imact of Tina as a leader of your teacher training experience at Be Luminous Yoga. 

Adjunct Teacher Training Faculty

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Nicole Tsong has been teaching yoga since 2009.  Nicole, RYT 500, is a certified Baptiste teacher and has trained extensively with master teacher Baron Baptiste, assisting him at teacher trainings and other Baptiste programs around the world. In 2013 & 2014, she taught kids yoga on the yoga teaching team for the White House Easter Egg Roll. She also writes a weekly fitness column — Fit for Life — for The Seattle Times.  Nicole leads the Be Luminous Yoga Assisting and Teacher Development Program and brings her powerful coaching eye to the program. 

Jodi Boone teaches the 3-hour prenatal section of the Be Luminous Yoga Teacher Trianing.  Jodi studied pre and postnatal yoga with Colette Crawford, the founder of the Seattle Holistic Center and former obstetrics nurse.  Since completing her training in 2002, she has taught pre and postnatal yoga classes at studios througout Seattle, as well as that the University of Washington.  In 2003, Jodi copmleted a doula training throught he Seattle Midwifery School, and over the years has supported many women, and their partners, through the journey of labor and childbirth.  In 2009, Jodi developed a pre and postnatal Yoga Teacher Training program, which she offered in Osaka, Japan, and Goa, India annually.  In 2013, Jodi, together with Corinna Stahlhoffen founder of the fist natural childbirth center in India, produced a 3-DVD set of Yoga for Pregnancy, Yoga for Postnatal Perio and Baby Care.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.jodiboone.com/prental-yoga.com.

The Be Luminous Teacher Training was a rich, powerful, engaging, illuminating experience all the way through.  But honestly, I felt I got my money's worth after just the first weekend!

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).
