Join us over four weekends for our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Program. Through this program, you will learn not only how to teach yoga safely and confidently to women during all stages of pregnancy, you will be immersed in the journey women take through pregnancy, labor and childbirth, helping you to become knowledgeable and conversant in prenatal anatomy and physiology, fetal development and the process of labor and chilbirth.

This program is open to teachers who have completed their 200-hour teacher training program, as well as professionals in the field, including doulas, midwives, obstetricians and labor and delivery nurses. 

 The training meets over four weekends, which includes Friday evenings and all day on Saturday and Sunday:

Oct 7 - 9

Nov 11 - 13

Dec 9 - 11

Jan 20 - 22

Meeting times are: 

Fridays: 6:30pm to 9:30 pm
Saturdays: 7:45am to 6:00pm
Sundays: 9:00am to 6pm 

** This program is held at Aditi Bodywork (NOT at Be Luminous Yoga)**

In addition to these class times, each student will be required to assist one prenatal yoga or postnatal yoga class outsidee of our course meeting times. During the course, you will also be observing a prenatal yoga class on Saturday mornings each weekend that we meet, as well as one postnatal class.

For over twenty years, Dr. Leticia Nieto has been working to provide an experiential learning process around how we might constructively talk through and make change around social oppression – privilege and injustice. This curriculum is the culmination of her journey with that charge. Offered over months in the University setting, the training team, which includes presenter Liz Goodwin, co-author of Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment, is also able to bring the nuts and bolts of this rich model in one day as well. It is a unique experience in several different ways. Unlike many diversity trainings, this approach is grounded in the reality of systemic oppression rather than simply attitudes or beliefs and the hope to shift them.

We assert that at the root, our socialized patterns around privilege and power in our interactions are embedded in superstructures that will likely not change dramatically in our life-time. That is what makes this work of liberation, fairness, and social change so incredibly trying. And while these superstructures persist, we can relate to them with more or less awareness and, as a result, make positive change more or less realizable. We can actually develop skills that allow us to be more anti-oppressive and more conscious of the socialization we undergo being immersed in this socio-cultural context. Finally, this curriculum is unique in its addressing of nine different equally important areas of inequality––age, disability, religious background, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, indigenous background, national origin and gender. The nine different structural inequalities are always at play in all of our interactions and, with this understanding, we can more effectively communicate, relate and work together.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This four class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Classes are held Thursday nights 6:45pm-7:15pm (90 minutes).

The Space In Between

 
The ancient practices of yoga and meditation are time tested tools that teach us how to go with the flow of life's ups and downs without being beaten up by stress. The place we are seeking is the one in between extremes but to find it we usually have to rub up against some uncomfortable edges. The longer we practice, the bettter we get at resting in the center and at being more centered in body, mind and spirit. 
This weekend we are delighted to host Desiree Rumbaugh here in Seattle. She teaches from the experience of 30 years of practice and study in the Iyengar and Anusara methods of Yoga and more recently, Vipassana meditation. Creator of the DVD series Yoga to the Rescue and founder of Wisdom Warriors™, Desiree delights in sharing her ever evolving understanding of Yoga with students of all levels.

With the ability to demonstrate some of the most difficult postures and–even more amazingly–getting students to experience the same sequences, Desirée has a well-earned reputation for deepening even the most advanced practices. She does it with a sense of humor balanced with a quest for authenticity. Most surprising about her teaching is her ability to tap into the student’s vulnerable spaces to access these wonderful poses. Her unique ability to draw out the bright and shining light from within every student, no matter what level of yoga experience, is her gift to the world.

After more than thirty years of practice, including having earned teaching certificates in both Iyengar yoga and Anusara yoga, Desirée continues to live her passion for yoga every day. Desirée has an astoundingly full teaching schedule, traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Take Our Intro To Yoga Series 

This four class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Classes are held Thursday nights 6:45pm-7:15pm (90 minutes).

Restorative yoga is considered the true antidote to stress because it is a practice that allows you to relax deeply with awareness. Relaxing with awareness is the key to bringing the mind‐body into a state of balance or homeostasis, similar to the effect of meditation.

Modern life is extremely demanding, and it’s easy to be swept away by the intensity of its pace. Today’s pace of life can cause us to be in a constant state of high alert, as our bodies release stress hormones that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, or our ‘fight or flight’ response. This affects our ability to sleep soundly, to properly digest our food, to feel grounded, to have mental clarity and focus, as well as our ability to conceive a child.

Restorative Yoga integrates fully supported yin poses and passively held postures. Through props and positioning, each asana is practiced in a way that the practitioner feels held and supported. This allows you to relax deeply and completely, stimulating a parasympathetic response and allowing our bodies' systems and rythms to recalibrate and heal. This restores our sense of balance, mentally, physiacally and emotionally.

This training is intended for yoga instructors who would like to teach Restorative yoga, as well as for yoga practitioners who would like to more deeply understand the Retrostaive Yoga practice.
