Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Be adventurously luminous with Carley Ewert and Nicole Tsong this September on a yoga retreat in the heart of the "American Alps."

Enjoy all-levels yoga practices, meditation and optional hiking excursions, while connecting to yourself and your community. This amazing opportunity is set in the stunning North Cascades near Diablo Lake where a range of multilevel hikes offer flora, fauna and breath-taking views.

Your tuition includes lodging at the North Cascades Learning Center, fresh flavorful local foods showcasing what the Skagit River has to offer, and yoga classes expertly guided by Nicole and Carley. Optional canoeing, kayaking, and guided hikes with the experienced staff naturalists are available upon request at the Learning Center for an additional fee.

About Carley & Nicole: 

An adventurer by nature, Carley thrives in the outdoors. From surfing to rock climbing to skiing and hiking, her feet are happiest in motion except when they land her solidly on her mat. As a full time yoga instructor for the past 5 years, Carley offers classes in yoga studios, corporate offices, and clinical settings. She believes yoga is accessible to everyone and guides her students to listen to the deeper more subtle cues of their bodies to overcome whatever curve balls life may have thrown them. She adds laughter, compassion, strength, and skillful physical adjustments to her classes in the hope to inspire individuals to reach their greatest potential both on and off the mat.

A former journalist, Nicole was first drawn to heat, the powerful flow and the hands-on assists she discovered in power vinyasa classes as a bridge from her intense workdays into presence and peace. She came out of every practice calmer and more joyful. Now a certified Baptiste power vinyasa yoga instructor, Nicole brings love, joy and energy to her teaching, encouraging you to explore your edge, to find full self-expression and to see the incredible possibilities on your mat and in your own life. Her intention is to empower students, to serve and to create dynamic communities.

In addition to inversions and arm balances, binds are a wonderful way to take your practice to the next level. When done properly binds are a great way to deepen your poses and explore proper alignment. Binds help us explore new opening in areas that tend to be extra tight (low back, hips, shoulders): to open up the heart, lengthen the spine and massage internal organs. Though binds look intense, the key to binding is not to try hard, but to try easy! This workshop will be split into four sections. First an overview of binding and why we bind in our yoga practice. Next we will warm up and dive into key body areas that are essential for binding successfully (shoulders, hips and shoulder blades). Third, we will break into a clinical session to demonstrate key techniques that will deepen your binding practice. Finally we will continue our practice our practice and explore typical and advance binds that you can incorporate into any class.

During this fun-filled workshop, we will go through the history, structure and purpose of Mala beads. We'll then spend most of our time designing and stringing our own 108-bead Mala!
 
Workshop fee is $55 per person, $100 for 2 people (must sign up together). Fee includes materials (gemstone beads, guru bead, spacers/marker beads, string/wire, carrier pouch) and instruction.
 
Workshop will be led by Dominique Lim, jewelry designer and owner of Knimani Bondi Handmade Jewelry.

Ayurveda, Yoga’s science, offers a philosophy and holistic approach to self-healing, helping you to create balance within, as well as with your environment.

This ancient science is extremely relevant today as we seek natural ways of healing and being. The foundations of Ayurveda are practical and intuitive. Through these practices, you come to know yourself deeply. This deep knowing allows you to nourish yourself in many ways: through diet, your life’s work, your relationships, sleep and exercise, as well as other practices and activities that are meaningful to you.

Ultimately, Ayurveda promotes physical, spiritual, emotional and mental health and balance, bringing life satisfaction and longevity.

About the Instructor:

Jodi Boone - Jodi feels that yoga has been one of life's most precious gifts.  She's inspired to teach and share the beauty of yoga with others because it has had such a profound effect on all aspects of herself and her life.  Jodi was introduced to Power Vinyasa by her teacher Lisa Black and completed the Baptiste Level I & II teacher trainings in 2003.  She specializes in pre- and postnatal yoga, completing her training with Colette Crawford at the Seattle Holistic Center in 2001.  Jodi is also a labor support doula.  Other passions include Ayurveda, which she studied extensively in India, and is currently completing her training to be an Ayurvedic Wellness Couselor with the Kerala Academy.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Why this training?

While many of us start yoga for its awesome physical benefits, at some point we want more than just the basics of classes.  We want to understand the anatomy behind what we are doing.  We want you to master handstand. We want to know what poses are good for energizing or managing stress and anxiety. At some point, we also know that yoga is changing us – making us kinder, happier, less reactionary.  So, what’s all that about?  What’s going on on my yoga mat that’s making me a better person elsewhere?  We’ll explore all of this and more in this powerful, hands-on 2 month immersion. Plan to participate fully. The program offers the opportunity not only to expand your yoga practice, but engage in personal exploration to leave you with real, practical tools to enliven your whole life.

Who is this program for? 

The program is perfect for those who love yoga and want to learn more about the full package of yoga, from asana, to a taste of Sanskrit, to a touch of Ayurveda and a study of the 8 Limbs. The course is built for yoga practitioners interested in an immersion outside of a teacher training environment, and current teachers seeking ongoing training.

Asana:

  • Refine your daily asana practice & explore advanced asanas
  • Learn basic anatomy for yoga postures
  • Enjoy long, inspiring and deepening yoga practices of discovery
  • Design a home sequence

Mediation:

  • Explore three different meditation techniques
  • Explore current science behind meditation

Pranayama:

  • Learn various techniques and their applications
  • Integrate pranayama into a daily practice

Yoga Philosophy +:

  • Dive into the traditional teachings of yoga and apply them in your life

Have you ever come out of class electrically charged and wonderfully zen at the same time? Chances are your Chakras (wheels) just got a much needed spinning. The Chakra system is a beautiful and profound model that can deepen your yoga practice and create balance in your life. With a basic understanding of each Chakra, how to tap into their energy, you will add a whole new, powerful dimension to your practice and growth as a student. In this workshop we will break down and demystify the Chakras, discuss their meanings, and see how we can apply their universal teachings to deepen our practice. Rob Bracco is a firm believer that the best way to learn the Chakras is to experience them in the body. After an overview discussion, the workshop will proceed into an asana practice, spinning each wheel along the journey, and end in a Chakra meditation. Bring a journal, pen, clothes to practice in, a yoga mat and lots of questions.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Description:

Restorative yoga is considered the true antidote to stress because it is a practice that allows you to relax deeply with awareness. Relaxing with awareness is the key to bringing the mind-body into a state of balance or homeostasis, similar to the effect of meditation. Modern like is extremely demanding, and it's easy to be swept away by the intensity of its pace. Today's pace of life can cause us to be in a state of high alert at all times, as our bodies release stress hormones that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system or our 'fight or flight' response. This affects our ability to sleep soundly, to properly digest our food, to focus, to feel grounded and even our ability to conceive a child. Restorative Yoga integrates fully supported yin poses and passively held postures. Through props and positioning, each asana is practiced in a way that the practitioner feels held and supported. This allows you to relax deeply and completely, stimulating a parasympathetic response and restoring a sense of balance, calm and goodness.

Learning Objectives:

Through this training students will learn:

  • Philosophy of Restorative Yoga
  • How to Sequence a Restorative Yoga Class
  • The Anatomy of Restorative Yoga
  • The Art of Propping Students and Supporting Students
  • How to work with students who have Special Needs and Injuries
  • Contraindications of Restorative Yoga
  • Short sequences to specifically address stress. premenstrual syndrome and jet-lag

Contact Hours: Minimum 16 and Maximum 25 Hours.

About the instructor

Jodi Boone - Jodi feels that yoga has been one of life's most precious gifts.  She's inspired to teach and share the beauty of yoga with others because it has had such a profound effect on all aspects of herself and her life.  Jodi was introduced to Power Vinyasa by her teacher Lisa Black and completed the Baptiste Level I & II teacher trainings in 2003.  She specializes in pre- and postnatal yoga, completing her training with Colette Crawford at the Seattle Holistic Center in 2001.  Jodi is also a labor support doula.  Other passions include Ayurveda, which she studied extensively in India, and is currently completing her training to be an Ayurvedic Wellness Couselor with the Kerala Academy.

Learning Objectives:

In this course for teachers, you'll learn:

  • Archetypal shapes, their meaning and the relationship to yoga

  • How to create sequences that align with celestial events (like moon and planetary phases)
