Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Join Michael Stone for a 1-day workshop of practice and discussion, to gain a better understanding of the aspects, benefits and connections between yoga postures and meditation practice.  Michael Stone translates Buddhist and Yoga practices into tools that transform habits, cultivate more intimate relationships, and promote a deeper compassion for our world. This workshop is suitable for the curious and committed.

MORNING PROGRAM

Michael will guide us through yoga postures, paying attention to breathing and alignment, so we can drop deeper into familiar postures and learn tips to make new poses come alive. The morning will end with guided meditation on the breath.

AFTERNOON PROGRAM

Learn the basics of meditation practice, how to work with distracting thoughts, and how to develop a daily practice that reduces stress and rumination. There will be time for meditation, discussion and study. 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Michael Stone is a Buddhist teacher, yogi, psychotherapist, and author. Some of his books include The Inner Tradition of Yoga and Yoga for a World Out of Balance. He is committed to synthesizing traditional meditation teaching in a variety of retreat, conference, medical and monastic settings. Michael also presents throughout the world as an acclaimed public speaker. His goal is to cultivate long-term relationships with serious students of yoga and Buddhism as he translates traditional meditative tools to faciliatate their greater impact in the worlds of psychology, technology, economics and ecology. In 2003, Michael founded Centre of Gravity in Toronto. As one of the largest Buddhist communities in Canada, Centre of Gravity was recognized for its creative integration of yoga practice, Buddhist meditation, and social action. He has also served as a Guiding Teacher at the True North Insight Vipassana community. His research and teaching explore the intersection of committed spiritual practice and social action.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

About Carley & Nicole: 

An adventurer by nature, Carley thrives in the outdoors. From surfing to rock climbing to skiing and hiking, her feet are happiest in motion except when they land her solidly on her mat. As a full time yoga instructor for the past 5 years, Carley offers classes in yoga studios, corporate offices, and clinical settings. She believes yoga is accessible to everyone and guides her students to listen to the deeper more subtle cues of their bodies to overcome whatever curve balls life may have thrown them. She adds laughter, compassion, strength, and skillful physical adjustments to her classes in the hope to inspire individuals to reach their greatest potential both on and off the mat.

A former journalist, Nicole was first drawn to heat, the powerful flow and the hands-on assists she discovered in power vinyasa classes as a bridge from her intense workdays into presence and peace. She came out of every practice calmer and more joyful. Now a certified Baptiste power vinyasa yoga instructor, Nicole brings love, joy and energy to her teaching, encouraging you to explore your edge, to find full self-expression and to see the incredible possibilities on your mat and in your own life. About the Instructor:

Jodi Boone - Jodi feels that yoga has been one of life's most precious gifts.  She's inspired to teach and share the beauty of yoga with others because it has had such a profound effect on all aspects of herself and her life.  Jodi was introduced to Power Vinyasa by her teacher Lisa Black and completed the Baptiste Level I & II teacher trainings in 2003.  She specializes in pre- and postnatal yoga, completing her training with Colette Crawford at the Seattle Holistic Center in 2001.  Jodi is also a labor support doula.  Other passions include Ayurveda, which she studied extensively in India, and is currently completing her training to be an Ayurvedic Wellness Couselor with the Kerala Academy.

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This eight class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Why this training?

While many of us start yoga for its awesome physical benefits, at some point we want more than just the basics of classes.  We want to understand the anatomy behind what we are doing.  We want you to master handstand. We want to know what poses are good for energizing or managing stress and anxiety. At some point, we also know that yoga is changing us – making us kinder, happier, less reactionary.  So, what’s all that about?  What’s going on on my yoga mat that’s making me a better person elsewhere?  We’ll explore all of this and more in this powerful, hands-on 2 month immersion. Plan to participate fully. The program offers the opportunity not only to expand your yoga practice, but engage in personal exploration to leave you with real, practical tools to enliven your whole life.

Who is this program for? 

The program is perfect for those who love yoga and want to learn more about the full package of yoga, from asana, to a taste of Sanskrit, to a touch of Ayurveda and a study of the 8 Limbs. The course is built for yoga practitioners interested in an immersion outside of a teacher training environment, and current teachers seeking ongoing training.

Asana:

  • Refine your daily asana practice & explore advanced asanas
  • Learn basic anatomy for yoga postures
  • Enjoy long, inspiring and deepening yoga practices of discovery
  • Design a home sequence

Mediation:

  • Explore three different meditation techniques
  • Explore current science behind meditation

Pranayama:

  • Learn various techniques and their applications
  • Integrate pranayama into a daily practice

Yoga Philosophy +:

  • Dive into the traditional teachings of yoga and apply them in your life

Take Our Intro to Yoga Series

This seven class series provides you with the tools you need to be safe and have fun in your yoga practice. We break down the sequence and philosophy step-by-step so that you not only understand the basics of yoga, but you also understand the reasoning for the practice and how to modify it for your body. It is a powerful mind and body workout. This class is taught in a heated room or 85 degrees. Check our dates, but classes generally start on the first Monday of each month. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday nights 7:15pm-8:45pm (90 minutes).

Description:

Restorative yoga is considered the true antidote to stress because it is a practice that allows you to relax deeply with awareness. Relaxing with awareness is the key to bringing the mind-body into a state of balance or homeostasis, similar to the effect of meditation. Modern like is extremely demanding, and it's easy to be swept away by the intensity of its pace. Today's pace of life can cause us to be in a state of high alert at all times, as our bodies release stress hormones that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system or our 'fight or flight' response. This affects our ability to sleep soundly, to properly digest our food, to focus, to feel grounded and even our ability to conceive a child. Restorative Yoga integrates fully supported yin poses and passively held postures. Through props and positioning, each asana is practiced in a way that the practitioner feels held and supported. This allows you to relax deeply and completely, stimulating a parasympathetic response and restoring a sense of balance, calm and goodness.

Learning Objectives:

Through this training students will learn:

  • How to Sequence a Restorative Yoga Class
  • The Anatomy of Restorative Yoga
  • The Art of Propping Students and Supporting Students
  • How to work with students who have Special Needs and Injuries
  • Contraindications of Restorative Yoga
  • Short sequences to specifically address stress. premenstrual syndrome and jet-lag

About the instructor

Jodi Boone - Jodi feels that yoga has been one of life's most precious gifts.  She's inspired to teach and share the beauty of yoga with others because it has had such a profound effect on all aspects of herself and her life.  Jodi was introduced to Power Vinyasa by her teacher Lisa Black and completed the Baptiste Level I & II teacher trainings in 2003.  She specializes in pre- and postnatal yoga, completing her training with Colette Crawford at the Seattle Holistic Center in 2001.  Jodi is also a labor support doula.  Other passions include Ayurveda, which she studied extensively in India, and is currently completing her training to be an Ayurvedic Wellness Couselor with the Kerala Academy.
