Meditation is the practice of training your mind to focus on a particular thing in the present moment for a period of time. This is not the same thing as ceasing your thoughts or turning off your mind, but rather adopting a particular way of paying attention to your current experience.
While meditation has its roots in eastern cultures, today western science is exploring the powerful benefits of meditation for our lives. Scientists agree that during the process of meditation, the brain fires in a specific way that gives rise to what is called mindful awareness: an ability to calmly observe each moment as it passes.

Mindful awareness has been shown to play a powerful role in overall wellness. In particular, it aids healing in a variety of physical illnesses and lessens the severity of some mental conditions, including:

WHERE CAN YOU FIND MEDITATION INSTRUCTION AT BE LUMINOUS?
At Be Luminous, we integrate elements of mindful awareness into all our yoga classes, but we also offer classes that focus on meditation, as well as workshops and personal instruction in various meditation techniques. We also host well-known teachers from various meditation traditions throughout the year.
CLASSES WITH DEDICATED MEDITATION INSTRUCTION
The 4:00-6:00 pm class on Sunday evenings offers a unique integration of meditation into your practice. Sometimes you will sit for a few minutes scattered throughout the practice, while at other times you will be guided through 20 to 30 minutes of meditation at the end of the session.
Introduction to Meditation series: This four-part series will introduce you to a variety of meditation techniques and help you realize the benefits of meditation. Stay tuned for workshop dates and times - this is offered intermittently.
Personal Instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation.
Michel is a certified instructor with the Chopra Center in its practice of Primordial Sound Meditation. This mantra-based meditation is a wonderful tool for moving beyond stress to living a vibrant, joyful life.
